In this article, I will share my thoughts on the major platforms, the pros and cons of each, and how they are working for me.
Amazon
I recommend publishing novellas and novels exclusively on Amazon. According to WordsRated, Amazon accounts for 67% of all ebook sales. Adding books borrowed through Kindle Unlimited into the equation, Amazon accounts for a whopping 83% of all ebook consumption. An extremely large proportion of all novella-form erotica published (probably a majority) is included in Kindle Unlimited, so that number suggests erotica readers are overrepresented on KU.
Kindle Unlimited has its benefits and drawbacks, and you probably shouldn’t enroll all of your books in the Kindle Select/KU program. But I do find that bundles of three or more books together in KU receive a whole lot of page reads for me. My bundles like The Thai Mistresses, Nothing But Ass, and The Punishment Bundle, are also amongst my most popular and profitable books for sales.
Because the other marketplaces have such small markets, it seems to me a lot of work to publish them all across the web and deal with documentation and everything else for what small revenue stream you might earn. But I never really tried publishing on Smashwords, et al, so I can’t say for sure. I published only one book on Smashwords, and it didn’t do well. I base my assessment on my happiness with Amazon and on what I read from other peoples’ experiences.
